Hydrologic atlases illustrating the volume of water in storage (saturated thickness), elevation of the water table, base of the Ogallala Formation, and land surface elevation for each county of the High Plains Water District have been published for the years 1980, 1985, 1990, and 1995.

Prospective landowners use the atlases to determine how much water is in storage, the depth that wells have to be drilled to completely penetrate the aquifer, depth-to-water, and estimated pumping depth for the tract of land they are considering purchasing.

Land loan agents use the atlases to verify water availability and the water level data collected from the observation wells to estimate the probable life of the water supply when evaluating land values for loans. Water well drillers use data from the atlases to prepare bids for drilling wells. They are also used by cities and school districts to obtain better bond ratings.
